Scrumptious Saturdays: Yummy Tape

Ooohh..I'll never forget the Bubble Tape! Whenever we're at Megamall, my kuya and I will always have these babies in our pockets as we go home. 8->

And it takes us only HOURS to finish this 6-foot long bubble gum! Good times :3

This is the only flavor I ever bought. Though I'm not exactly sure if I was able to chew on its other flavors XD

Fun Fridays: A Not so Girly Game

I have a tendency to panic and be extremely noisy whenever I play this. @-)

My favorite tanks would be the Prism Tanks. They're so cool! They have lasers and all that shiz. And! And! They can easily put establishments down when they are 20 in number. :-bd

I hate those spider robot thingys because they can easily defeat the taaaaaaaaaanks! :(( Asdfghjkl.

I never really got the point of this game though. :| I mean, okay, so I get to win when I destroy the enemy's base, but what happens next? Play another round, have the same tactic, celebrate if you win, throw a tantrum if you lose (Okay, I'm exaggerating. XD), and then what? Do the same routine over and over until you get bored? Gah. Playing one round already bores me. -_-

My brother always plays this when we were kids. I never got the hang of it. Even after years of not playing, I still end up playing only one round and turn off the computer. Not my kind of stuff. :))

Theater Thursdays: The Circle of Life

It has been 16 years, and I vividly remember how sad I was when Mufasa died. I cried at this part of the movie. Boo Scar. :(

When Lion King came out in 1994, I was very much enthusiastic about it! It did not seem very appealing at first, but when Simba started to sing the "I Just Can't Wait to be King" Lion King instantly became my favorite :D

"It's the best movie ever!"

I also had this piggy bank, except that it's not a pig but Simba :D I never wanted anyone to touch it and I sometimes hug it when I sleep. Oohh..childhood memories ♥

Those we're the times that we had no worries. Hakuna Matata. :D

Whatever Wednesdays: Light Up Shoes

I personally never owned a pair of these but I definitely drooled over the kids who had one.

I drooled two times over when the pair had multi-colored lights and had sounds!

My parents did not want to buy me a pair because the shoes annoyed them to no end and they came with a hefty price tag. Now, I guess I don't feel that much deprived of my childhood. I think it looks...weird. And hell of annoying. :)) Haha. But Fluffy Hoppers' Associate thinks otherwise...

:>

I had one of theeeeeeeeeeese! X3 It's pink and has lots and lotsa lights! @-) Gah. I miss this! I once tried to get the batteries out and change it because I think it was broken or something - it did not light up whenever I walked and I was mortified with that :(( Thankfully, my parents had it fixed and it started to light up again. Yay! :-bd But I never got a new pair anymore. Boo. :|

But one thing's for sure, Light-up Shoes are L-O-V-E *hug*

TV Tuesdays: It's a vampire thing

No this blog post is NOT about Twilight.

I was never into this show. :| First and foremost, those vampires, demons and darkness people creep me out so why the heck am I going to watch this? (Well maybe now I would, but..I still have to think about it. XD)

My cousin introduced this to me. He was staying at our place when he was still in college, so there are times that I would see him watching TV with my kuya. Since the vampire things thrilled both of them, they would end up watching Buffy kick ass with her "Scooby Gang" and kill the evil ones. No cartoons for me. *sigh*

I admire Sarah Michelle Gellar because despite her encounters with the evil ones, she still remains pretty. :-bd

I'll never forget this show. Whenever I would hear the opening theme song, I'd always hurry back to my parents's room. After a while, I'd go out and pretend to "watch" but after a few seconds, I will crawl back to the room and keep myself busy with my storybooks. When I see the evil ones, I feel like they are outside the windows, smirking and giving me creepy stares. X|

Now that's a glimpse of why I do not like horror movies. :))

Music Mondays: Nervous

I bet even once in your life you've sang your lungs out to this song.

So here's a video of such a wonderful 90s song. (No sarcasm intended.) Mostly heard from the blaring speakers jeepney drivers or the group of yayas huddled around a radio, making chika.

Haha. If you were a street kid in the 90s, (and hindi ka overprotected), chances are, you've come across this song. :)

Karaoke, anyone?

Di makatulog sa gabi sa kaiisip...

Surprise Sundays: Tamagotchi

Surprise surprise! It's your favorite 90's virtual pet that seemed to be more needy than a real living pet. :| The Tamagotchi! Did you ever own one? If you did, I'm pretty sure there was a time when you actually wanted to throw it to the wall because it wouldn't stop making a lot of noise because it's hungry, sleepy or it needs to go the washroom. @-) But it the end, you can't deny you loved it still, right? Here you go, the top 90's virtual pet. Good times, good times. \:D/

The Tamagotchi (たまごっち Tamagotchi?) is a handheld digital pet created in Japan by Akihiro Yokoi of WiZ Co. Ltd., and Aki Maita of Bandai Co. Ltd. It was first sold by Bandai in 1996 in Japan. Over 70,000,000 Tamagotchis have been sold world-wide as of 2008. Most Tamagotchis are housed in a small egg-shaped computer with an interface usually consisting of three buttons, although the number of buttons may vary for different variations.

According to Bandai the name is a portmanteau combining the Japanese word "たまご" (tamago), which means "egg", and the English word "watch" (as in timepiece). Consequently, the name is romanized as "Tamagotch" without the "i" in Japan. At the end of most Tamagotchi character's names, excluding some newer characters like Makiko, is 'tchi' or 'っち' in Japanese.

Scrumptious Saturdays: Never knew I'll love

What better way to start the weekend than reminiscing those mouth-watering foods we used to enjoy when we were still kids? Some are still available today (yay for us :D), but there are also some that are nowhere to be found. Boo. :(

Shawarma.

I always remember my older cousins buying and enjoying this whenever we are having our merienda. They would go out and come back eating this fresh-lumpia-like food with meat, onions, tomatoes, veggies and with a sauce that looks like mayonnaise and can be spicy.

It looks tempting to eat, but as a I kid, I NEVER appreciated the taste of onions. :| It was so..weird. I can't describe the taste but it was really horrible for me. That somewhat gave me the fear of eating shawarma again. :|

After 10 years, I decided to give shawarma another try. I was in SM Clark with my family and my lola decided to buy shawarma for our merienda. Not wanting to seem picky with foods, I agreed. At the hotel, I stared at the shawarma, thinking of how to eat it. HAHA. XD

I looked around and saw that everyone, even my 10 year old brother (?!) happily eating his shawarma away. I told myself, Okay I can do this. I took one bite then POOF! It was like one of the best things EVERRR.

Yay for shawarma! Two thumbs up :D

For shawarma How-To's, check this link: http://www.mixph.com/2007/07/how-to-make-shawarma-recipe.html :-bd

And oh, our sincerest apologies for not being able to post anything for Fun Fridays :(

Theater Thursdays: The Great Outcast

Who would forget Balto, a stray that is half dog and half wolf, that heroically maneuvered a sled that carries medicines for the sick children in Alaska?

This has been my favorite movie as a child because I became so amazed with how Balto managed to sacrifice himself to make sure that the medicines will be brought back safely to help cure the sick children, especially Rosy. I think I cried at the end of the movie. Haha :P

I also managed to buy a dog figurine that kinda looked like Balto, and I even hug it as I sleep! (I know I know, it's weird. But what gives? I'm a kid. And I love Balto. Hah!)

Oohh, I remembered crying and throwing a tantrum when the foot of the figurine broke! :)) My mom even panicked and try to appease me that it was just a figurine. Just a figurine.

It wasn't just a figurine. It's BALTO. The best and my most favorite dog, EVER. I like him more than our pet dog. Haha. >:)

To cut the long story short, my dad used mighty bond to fix the foot. YAY :D The figurine is still displayed on my desk in my room ♥

Yes, I am very fond of dogs. :-bd

Whatever Wednesdays: A Fur-blog post

A random whatever from a not-random someone :D

So let me start off with my bestfriend, Angel. We've known each other 'til like forever. So we sort of know each other like the back of our hands ♥

Furbies. Do you even know what they are?!

Okay, I sound mean. (Angel will probably kill me for this. XD) But when you look at that thing slash toy, will you have the slightest idea of the type of animal it falls in to? @_@

The first time I saw her first furby, May-May, I thought it was a cool toy. It talks, sleeps, and you get to feed it! (Lame features, I know. But what would you expect from a kid? ;P) She's the gray one and she's already dead. :(

Her second furby is Minerva. I think she bought it during the time when furbies are becoming extinct in the market. Minerva's always been inside her box, until now. o_o Maybe because she's white or something. I don't know -_-

So here are 5 little somethings to help you understand what furbies are: I'll leave the judging to you >:)

Created in 1998, produced until 2000 (An overnight sensation?)
Strange creatures (owl-like something? XD)
Speaks furbish (u-nye-noh-lah: Show me a dance)
Has an infrared port on its head and says "No light!" when you cover it ._.
It's like a pet that does..something. I think :P

Whatever Wednesdays: Dancing Capsule

The sick Batang X here!
I was about to drink my medicine when a blog post popped in my head! (Geez, I get my blog inspiration from random things these days (e.g. pink sky). It gets so boring here at home. :/)

Moving on... I got my inspiration from my medicines and then I thought ooooffffff...!

*drum roll please*

Dancing Capsules!

Do you remember these?

Well, of course, not THAT dancing capsule. Haha. (Although it would be cool to see these techno babies in my pocket, wiggling away~)

I meant THESE:

I was looking for possible youtube videos, but seeing that these groovy capsules are now a dead fad...there were no videos. :(

I remember buying them for 5 pesos a piece at the store in front of our school and just placing them on my palm, tilting my hand from side to side, watching it with awe as it "danced". It helped me get past the boring lectures in school. (Although these little critters were prone to being confiscated. :/)

Of course, now I know it's caused by the pull of the magnetic force of the magnet inside of it.

But my mind wasn't that corrupted yet by my education! (hah.) So, the kid me in the 90s was amazed about how this tiny thing jiggled.

(Ang babaw ko pala na bata. Haha.)

I bought every available color I could find! My favorite was the purple + green combination.

But now, I find it funny. It heavily reminds me of Immodium. :/

Dancing Capsule =/= Stomach pains.

Ok. I digress.

So yeah. Dancing capsules. My parents were so worried I'd accidentally swallow one or that I'd leave them lying around and people would mistake them for real medicines.

In my head, I was like oooh, I should keep them somewhere safe.

Today, I can't believe I found sane reason in their sermon! Who, in the right mind, would drink meds not safely packaged? :/

Although, I would like to mention I had an experience of getting one dancing capsule wet and I touched it, and, don't judge me, I tasted my finger. It tastes like rubber crappy poison. HAHA. Meh. I was a kid. I try stupid things. (I still do, though. So am I still a kid? :/)

Anyway! If you've experienced fiddling with these awesome dancing capsules, then good job you! If you haven't, LOSER. YOU'VE TOTALLY MISSED HALF OF YOUR LIFE!

(or maybe you weren't born yet and you just managed to stumble upon this blog. boo. you're young. i envy you. but then again, your capsules don't dance! TAKE THAT!)

Sigh.

My medicines are so boring.

I wish they danced. :/

TV Tuesdays: Omellete du Fromage

"Some things are a little more important than French class, Computer." -Dexter

With the help of his Subconscious Disco-Graphic Hypnotator, Dexter studied for his French exam over the night while sleeping. What this thingamajig really does is that you put a record at the top then what is played in the recorder are automatically placed in your subconscious mind, thus causing retention and being activated into the conscious. Accidentally, the record malfunctioned and it was stuck with the word Omellette du Fromage, which meant cheese omellete! Haha! And to think, it even made Dexter Man of the Year by Time Magazine! Unfortunately though, he was not able to capture his own laboratory since its security has voice recognition, and Dexter cannot say anything else aside from omellette du fromage.

Dexter's Laboratory has been one of the cartoons I have been watching and waiting for when I was still in elementary. *sigh* Time flies so fast, I don't think the show is still being aired these days. I'll never forget how annoyed Dexter is with his pestering older sister, Dee Dee. (I too am very much annoyed with her. Haha!) So here's a little something to remind you guys of this little genius and how he endures and works with the wonders of science and of course, Dee Dee. :D

Music Monday-night: Do-Re-Mi Theme Song "I Can"

We're on a roll today!

I just happened to gaze outside my window and I thought how wonderful it would feel to touch the pink sky. (How emo and cheesy can one get??)

Then I remembered this song.

I knew I just had to post it.

Remember the TV channels back then? Before Cinema One, there was VIVA Channel 6 where Pinoy movies were shown 24/7.

I always caught this one movie on that channel back when I was a kid.

I wonder if you guys know it. :p

"I can live, I can love. I can reach the heavens above. I can right what is wrong. I can sing just any song."

It's such a feel good song, don't you think? I just hate how off Mikee Cojuangco's voice was. Haha. Oh well.

Oh. It's from the movie Do-Re-Mi, by the way. It's entitled "I Can".

I might just do a flashback on that movie some time.

For now, let's sing out loud.

Now here's a random photo of the view outside my window.

Huzzah.

Batang X number 1 signing off. :)

Music Mondays: Bare Naked Ladies - One week

Hey guys! Been a while hasn't it huh?

Anyway, to start off our return, here's something a little up beat and nonsensical :D

The song came out 1999. Yep it's catchy and fun, and hard as hell to sing along to, but it ultimately makes no sense. Whatsoever. Anybody can provide a helpful interpretation?

The video itself is cool though, very very "90's" for a lack of a better term, and feels like a fitting culmination of the lighter side of the decade. The song's the kind that gets stuck to your head for about a couple of days... or weeks.

yeah that's it hahaha...

watch out for more updates in the following days!

Pizzicato Five - Sweet Soul Revue

Okay, a lot of you guys probably remember this song playing on the radio while in the car going to school or at home when our kasambahays had it playing.

Sweet Soul Revue (yes it is spelled that way apparently) was a hit by a Japanese Pop group named Pizzicato Five which was released back in 1993, and hit #1 in the charts here in the Philippines. It gained fame cause it was used as in an advertising campaign by some Japanese cosmetics corporation.

This is probably one of the only J-pop songs we all could remember. Hell it's surprising enough that it even went main stream here, since Asian pop wasn't really a thing here back then (excluding OPM of course).

I don't have anything against it though, the tune's pretty catchy.

As a bonus, here's the translated lyrics of the song.

I didn't notice till I looked
in the mirror
this morning
I'm falling in love with you
I'm falling in love with you

where am I going
dressing up?
yes, I'm going
to see you
baby, this town is always a parade
baby, so I am following

in this world
there are a lot of sweet
and catchy things
wanna hug
wanna be happy
don't you want to hold them close?

hey, the revue is starting
hey, don't be late
hey, the revue is starting
hey, don't forget

perhaps you noticed
when you
looked at me today
you're fallin' in love
fallin' in love with me

on tv I saw
and old movie
it was like
a musical revue
baby, the town is always a parade
baby listen! don't you hear it?

in this world
there a lot of happy
and lucky things
wanna kiss
wanna be glad
don't you want to hold them close?
don't you want to hold them close?

hey, the revue is starting
hey, don't be late
hey, the revue is starting
hey, don't forget

in this world
there are a lot of
sweet
and catchy things
oh lord,
don't rain
on my parade
but even if there is no
happy
or lucky things at all
in this world
you make me
so happy
don't you wanna hold them close?
don't you wanna hold them close?

hey, the revue is starting
hey, don't be late
hey, the revue is starting
hey, don't forget

A little too fluffy for my tastes

A little something we're gonna be doing weekly from now on, Musical Mondays features the hit songs we may have or may have not missed back in the day. If there're any songs you guys might know of back then, we're open to take requests!

Kicking it off would be this tune from Smashing Pumpkins. "Tonight Tonight" was released back in 1996 and is known as one of the band's greatest hits. While the song itself was well received and pretty damn sweet, the video that accompanied the song was what caught everyone's attention. It won 6 awards in the MTV Video Music Awards in 1996:

Video of the Year
Best Direction
Best Special Effects
Best Art Direction
Best Cinematography
Breakthrough Video

To this day, it's still considered to be one of the greatest music videos of all time

A little trivia, the video was heavily based on a silent film "A Trip to the Moon" by Georges Méliès waaay back in 1902. Here's the vid if you wanna take a peek at it:

For more info and updates on the band, check out their site: http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/

Ang TV

Ang TV (“The TV” in English) is a "gag-variety" show for kids in the Philippines. The show's format was inspired by its predecessor "Kaluskos Musmos" (a popular Philippine kiddie gag show in the '70s aired over RPN-9) and its foreign counterpart "The Mickey Mouse Club". Prior to 1992, Director Johnny Manahan enlisted a group of multi-talented kids (& pre-teens) to create the first ever gag-variety show for youngsters in the Philippines.

Most of the country's current stars can point their humble beginnings to Ang TV. Popular celebrities like Claudine Barretto, Angelu de Leon, Jolina Magdangal, Rica Peralejo, John Prats, Camille Prats, Paolo Contis, Angelica Panganiban, Patrick Garcia, Mark Vernal, Kevin Vernal, Christopher Roxas, Marc Conwi (Kenneth Guanio), Kaye Abad, Alfred Manal, Roselle Nava, Carlo Aquino - to name a few - all jump-started their careers as mainstays of the variety show.

Under Construction

Our site is currently going through some template edits. Bear with us. :)

So we can continue to let the good times roll!

Missing the Pink in Action

When was the last time you ate an Ice Scramble? That cold, pink blended ice with milk powder on top that helps you cool down when shakes, juices and water are not around when you're waiting for your busmates?

I was introduced to this pink friend of mine when I was in my gradeschool days, around 7 years ago. My mom told me not to buy from street vendors because the food they sell is not safe. You know how scramble vendors are: a man dressed in a loose plain-colored shirt, shorts, slippers, and a towel hanging around his neck, all tired and sweaty plus a bicycle with a cart with a pail on top and a blender thing inside. Naglalako ng scramble. Clean enough? I don't think so.

It was only last June 5 that I got to encounter this cold treat that has been missing in action after I graduated from gradeschool.

I was in SM Marikina with my boyfriend and brother. We were about to go home when we saw this newly improved ice scramble stand!

It still has the same taste as when I first ate it. Ahh, gradeschool days. It's fun to reminisce about the 90's. It's our year, our memories, our good times.
